Landscapes

painted both plein air and in-studio

The Battle of Largs Monument

painting in lightly spitting rain on the wet sand of Largs was surprisingly serene. The clouds hung low and touched the hills behind the famous pencil monument. It took just a gentle flick of tinted titanium white to express this moody bit of cloud drifting above the marina.

Painting outdoors on the Isles

The Barbay Hill Trip Point

A lookout on the Great Cumbrae Isle - a short ferry ride from Largs. We hiked a uphill road, past the old Millport Mineral Well, to this point where the overlapping isles of Bute and Arran can be seen across the water.

Ettrick Bay Beach

This was a study in moving landmarks to make the composition work for me. It was a gorgeous July day in Scotland - the sun was shining over the Isle of Bute. The water was so calm in this inlet - swimming did cross my mind.

The Portencross Point

A gorgeous day on the coast, painting on the Portencross Coastal Path.

A Pastel Landscape

using soft pastels and a reference photo I took while adventuring near Glencoe - the edge of loch Linnhe in the late afternoon sunlight was the most serene bit of
